MY APPROACH TO CREATIVE WELLBEING
The Natural
Creativity Approach™.
My approach makes room for expression, care, and possibility through creativity and art play. I begin with nature and the senses, use the Five Elements as invitations to explore, and nurture a caring relationship with yourself and the creator inside of you. What helps us move through change can also help us imagine change for the world around us.

The power of rest.
This approach is not about doing more or adding to your plate. There is no creative productivity goal to meet. Flowing with your creativity can be a reset button: a gentle way to pause, notice what you need, and support self-regulation.
Follow your energy. Make a few marks, linger with a material, or simply rest and notice. You can stop, return, or let the moment be enough. Rest is part of the practice.
These three threads weave together. You can begin with whichever feels most inviting today and return as your needs change.
01 / CONNECT WITH YOUR SENSES
Come to your senses.
Create from the heART.
We don’t have to fear AI to value our own creative voice. Our lived experience, senses, relationships, and care bring balance to what we create and how we use technology. Step outside. Notice what stirs you. Let nature and your available senses lead you into art that carries your own color, stories, and spirit.
Here, creativity begins with relationship: with yourself, your senses, your imagination, the elements, and the materials in your hands. We listen, make time, and let trust grow through practice.
- 01 / SIGHT
Follow a leaf’s lines.
- 02 / SOUND
Draw the rhythm of rain.
- 03 / TOUCH
Let texture guide a mark.
- 04 / SCENT
Paint a memory of the garden.
- 05 / TASTE
Sip tea; choose its colors.
02 / EXPLORE THROUGH THE FIVE ELEMENTS
What’s calling you today?
Let nature be your starting point.
Choose an element. See where it takes you.
AIR / A LITTLE ROOM TO BREATHE
Make space for
what’s possible.
When your mind feels full, begin with curiosity. Air invites a fresh perspective, a lighter mark, and permission to start without a plan.
There’s no right element to choose. Every experience weaves all five together.

03 / NURTURE YOUR CREATIVE RELATIONSHIP
Meet creativity
like a lover.
Make time for it. Learn what delights you. Arrive with tenderness, follow your curiosity, and leave room to be surprised. Let the process become an exchange: you bring your attention; the art offers something to notice, feel, and respond to.
A little attention.
A deeper connection.
With yourself
Ask, “What do I need today?” Let your energy and emotions help set the pace.
With your senses
Get to know your own ways of seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, and tasting. Notice what feels nourishing, and follow the senses available to you.
With your creativity
Make a date. Return with affection, play, and patience. Give your ideas time to change as you get to know them.
With the elements
Meet air, water, ether, fire, and earth as companions. Notice their rhythms in nature, in the studio, and in your own life.
With your materials
Learn a watercolor’s wander, clay’s weight, and paper’s grain. Try a lighter touch. Let the material invite your next move.
Relationship is part of the medicine. Here, medicine is a word for the care, trust, and connection we cultivate through creative practice. There is room for rest, for discovery, and for shaping a life that feels like your own.

Two sources of inspiration, woven into Tye’s own approach to sensory artmaking, nature, the Five Elements, and care through creative expression.
Sacred Woman by Queen Afua
Queen Afua’s work connects spiritual practice with care for the body, everyday spaces, relationships, and community. Its grounding in KMT teachings and ancestral connection invites reverence for the lives and stories we carry.

Schmitt approaches creativity as a relationship to nurture with tenderness, joy, and reverence. That invitation to release perfectionism and make space for creative expression resonates with the spirit of this studio.
